If you haven’t checked out Udemy, it’s a platform where you can learn pretty much anything at your own pace. It’s also been around for a while, so there are a ton of new and old guitar courses to choose from. You can check out the best ones (according to us) in this article, while here we’re going to take a look at some new Udemy guitar courses for a variety of levels that are worth checking out.
The Way Music Works – Gretchen Menn
First up is The Way Music Works, which is a course taught by the very talented Gretchen Menn of Zeparella fame, as well as her excellent body of solo work. It’s a course aimed at beginners that teaches the basics of music theory and how to apply them to the guitar fretboard. It makes for a great introduction to music theory on guitar, which a lot of guitarists tend to avoid and only come to at a much later stage in their playing. The course is divided into four sections that cover note names, rhythm, harmonic concepts, and blues soloing. It’s a well-structured course, and it’s good to see a very capable female instructor in what is for the most part still a boys club.

The Phrase Trainer – Robbie Calvo/Erich Andreas
Next up in our selection of new Udemy guitar courses is The Phrase Trainer by all-round session musician and genuinely great teacher, Robbie Calvo. This is a great course for the developing guitarist with an eye on playing guitar for a living, or mastering real-world skills that will make you stand out in any situation. You’ll need a looper for this course, so if you don’t have one already, I’d suggest treating yourself to one from Amazon. With so many samey courses on Udemy, this one really stands out; if I had to sum it up, I’d say it’s nice to see a skills-based course that teaches you how to target chord tones, create first and second guitar parts, as well as riffs, melody, and rhythm guitar parts, which makes for a very practical course indeed.

Shred Guitar Improvisation – Chris Zoupa
The third of our new Udemy guitar courses is Shred Guitar Improvisation by Chris Zoupa, whose name virtually guarantees you a great course (check out his other courses Ultimate Shred Machine and A Beginner’s Guide to Modes on the Guitar). What sets this shred course apart from most others is that it combines shred guitar scales and techniques with a knowledge of chords and intervals in an easy-to-follow way. Where most shred courses focus on soloing, this course shows you how to structures a solo and how/why it works with over both diatonic and non-diatonic chords.

Learn Guitar Repair Modules 1-4 – Kevin Webb
The last of our new Udemy guitar courses isn’t about scales, chords, or technique, it’s about guitar maintenance. At a time when more and more people are doing their own guitar maintenance, Learn Guitar Repair is a great course to have in your library. There are currently four modules including Maintaining Your Guitar, Setting Up Your Guitar, Make Your Own Bone Nut, and Fret Repair. Instructor Kevin Webb provides detailed explanations, checklists, and tips in a timely fashion. This course has even been recognized by the Wales Employability Sector and is an approved course on the Careers Wales Database.

Best blog post I’ve seen for a while. Given that Udemy are constantly discounting courses for 12 quid a pop, I’m tempted to buy all of your recommendations. Cheers!
