Privacy

This is a one-person guitar publishing site. I collect as little as I can get away with, I don’t sell anything to anyone, and the only reason I’d ever have your email address is that you asked me for a PDF or bought a book.
What follows is the detail, because some of it is legally required and some of it you might actually want to know.
What I collect
If you download a free PDF or buy a book
Your email address, and your name if you give one. This goes through Payhip, which handles the transaction and the file delivery. If you opted in to emails, it also goes to EmailOctopus, which is what I use to send them.
If you buy through Amazon
Nothing reaches me. Amazon sells you the book and keeps the customer relationship entirely; I see royalty totals, not people.
If you email me
Whatever is in the email, for as long as the email sits in my inbox.
If you just read the site
You can read everything here without giving me anything. The free browser tools run entirely in your browser and don’t send what you build anywhere.
Who else handles it
I don’t sell, rent or trade personal information, and I never will. But running a site means some things pass through other companies. These are all of them:

Cookies
The site uses cookies for two things: keeping it working (caching, and remembering settings in the browser tools), and Google Analytics counting visits in aggregate so I know which articles are worth writing more of. There are no advertising or behavioural-tracking cookies here.
You can turn cookies off in your browser settings. Some things will stop working properly if you do — mainly the tools that remember what you were doing — but you’ll still be able to read everything and buy anything.
If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, I honour it.
Emails, and stopping them
If you’re on the list, you’re there because you downloaded something free or bought a book and opted in. You’ll get a short welcome sequence and then occasional emails when there’s a new book or something worth reading.
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you’re off, immediately and permanently, with no follow-up asking why. You can also email me and I’ll do it manually.
I don’t use misleading subject lines or sender addresses, and I don’t pass your address to anyone else to email you.
Your rights over your data
Wherever you live, you can email me and ask for any of the following, and I’ll do it:
- A copy of what I hold about you
- A correction to anything that’s wrong
- Deletion of everything I hold
- Removal from the mailing list
- An end to any processing you object to
If you’re in the UK or the EU, these are rights under the UK GDPR and the GDPR respectively, and my lawful basis is your consent for marketing emails and contract performance for anything you’ve bought. You can withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority — in the UK, that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office.
If you’re in California, you have equivalent rights of access and deletion, and the right to know whether personal information is sold. It isn’t. Exercising any of these will never get you worse treatment or a worse price.
You can read the whole site anonymously without any of this arising.
How long I keep things
Mailing list data stays until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. Purchase records stay as long as Payhip and Amazon keep them, which is governed by their own retention rules and by tax record-keeping requirements. Emails you send me stay in my inbox unless you ask me to delete them.
Security, honestly stated
The site runs over HTTPS. Payments are handled by Payhip and Amazon, so card details never touch my systems. The mailing list sits with EmailOctopus behind their own security.
No small site can promise perfect security, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. If there were ever a breach affecting your data, I’d tell you by email as soon as I knew, and within 72 hours where the law requires it.
Children
This site isn’t aimed at children and I don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you think a child has given me something, email me and I’ll delete it.
Links to other sites
The site links out to Amazon, Payhip, YouTube and various other places. Once you follow a link, you’re on someone else’s site under someone else’s privacy policy, and I have no control over what they do. Some Amazon links are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Changes to this policy
If this changes in a way that matters, I’ll update the date at the top and say so in an email to the list. Minor corrections will just get a new date.
