Two patterns instead of five. Then everything else.
CAGED gives you five shapes to learn before any of it becomes useful. 3NPS gives you seven. The 2 Position System covers the whole neck with two positions per key, and once you have them, the same two positions carry your arpeggios, your chords, the exotic scales and, on bass, everything at once.
The problem was never you. It was the number of shapes.
Most players learn scale patterns for years and still freeze when the chords change. Not because they didn’t practise, but because five or seven disconnected boxes is a lot to hold in your head while something else is happening.
Two positions that connect logically is not a shortcut. You still put the work in. There’s just far less of it before it turns into music.
Five patterns per scale before you can move freely.
Seven patterns, each one a stretch to connect.
Two positions per key. Same two for scales, arpeggios and chords.
Four books, one system
Each book stands on its own. There’s no reading order and no book requires another. They share the same two positions, so anything you learn in one carries straight into the rest.
2 Position Guitar Scale System: Scales and Arpeggios
The complete system, all 12 keys
Where the system starts. Two positions per key, how to move between them, and the arpeggios built into the same framework.
- Two positions per key across all 12 keys
- Scale changes, open position scales and stacked positions
- Arpeggios in the same positions, same logic
The 2 Position Guitar Chord System
Two Grips per Chord, All Over the Neck
Chords are just scale notes stacked up, so if you already know where the scale notes are, you already know where the chords are. This book shows you how to find them.
- Chord voicings drawn out of each position
- A short recap of both positions up front, so you can start here
- Chords and scales on the same map, not two separate things to learn
Exotic Scales You’ll Actually Use
Ten Scales in the 2 Position Guitar Scale System
Most exotic scale books are encyclopedias. You learn forty scales and use none of them. This one picks ten that earn their place and puts them in the two positions you already know.
- Ten scales chosen for use, not completeness
- Each one mapped onto the two positions
- What to play them over, and what they sound like
The 2 Position Bass System
Scales, chord tones and chords in one book
Every string on a bass is a fourth apart, so there’s no warp: the patterns are identical wherever you start them. Every note from root to octave has one fixed place in each position.
- Scales, arpeggios and chord tones from two patterns
- 4-string throughout, with a 5-string chapter
- Diagrams only, no tab
Pick the problem you actually have
No set order. If you’re not sure, start with Scales and Arpeggios, because it’s the one the others are built on.
Scales and Arpeggios. Two positions, every key, and the arpeggios inside them.
The Chord System. Same two positions, now with the chords pulled out of them.
Exotic Scales You’ll Actually Use. Ten new sounds, no new patterns to memorise.
The 2 Position Bass System. Two patterns instead of five, and on bass they never warp, because every string is a fourth apart.
2 Position System FAQ
What is the 2 Position Guitar Scale System?
A way of playing scales across the whole neck using two positions per key instead of the five CAGED shapes or seven 3NPS patterns. The two positions connect to each other, so you can move up and down the neck without switching systems.
Do I need to read the books in order?
No. Each one stands alone and the chord, exotic scales and bass books each recap what you need. If you want a default, start with Scales and Arpeggios.
Is it for beginners?
It’s for players who know a few chords and at least one scale shape, and want the rest of the neck to make sense. You don’t need any theory beyond that.
How is this different from CAGED or 3NPS?
Fewer patterns, and the same patterns do more. With CAGED or 3NPS you learn five to seven shapes before they become musically useful. Here you learn two, and those two hold your scales, arpeggios and chords.
Do I need to read music or tab?
No. Everything is shown with fretboard diagrams labelled with intervals. Exotic Scales adds short phrases in tab, and the bass book has no tab at all.
What’s the difference between the PDF and the Amazon editions?
The content is the same. The PDF downloads instantly from this site and has print-quality diagrams. Kindle and paperback are on Amazon.
Is there a bundle?
Yes, as PDFs only. All four books in one download, for less than buying them separately. Kindle and paperback editions are sold individually on Amazon.
The 2 Position System Bundle
All four books as PDFs: scales and arpeggios, chords, exotic scales and bass, every diagram in print quality. One system, one download, for less than buying them separately.
